Just because Christmas has passed (sad day) doesn’t mean the holidays are over. That’s what I love about the end of the year. Just when you think you’ve had your fill of turkey and opened enough presents, then comes New Year’s Eve! To me, NYE is literally just a time of celebration — you celebrate being alive and making it to another year, and you have the opportunity to reevaluate your life and make changes if need be.
I know that Christmas is the star of December, so December 31 is always kind of an afterthought. But I’m here to tell you that it’s not too late to throw the ultimate NYE bash. You can still throw a poppin party without breaking the bank. But how, you ask? The answer: Amazon.com.
If you’ve read my other articles, you already know that I think that Amazon Prime is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I mean, you can get the best prices on products and don’t even have to go anywhere. How magical is that?? #technology #notgettingpaidforthisipromise
So I made a list of products (with links) that’ll help you organize the best party to ring in 2018. All you have to do is Add to Cart!
1. 25 Black, Gold, and Silver Party Straws ($5.49)
This pack comes with striped paper drinking straws that look retro and are durable and biodegradable. They’re metallic and shiny, and they’re guaranteed to elevate your cocktails in a second.
2. 31-Piece 2018 Photo Booth Props ($7.96)
This inexpensive kit comes with 31 pieces of black and gold photo booth props, complete with wooden dowel sticks and adhesives. These are printed on cardstock and include glasses, mustaches, bow ties, champagne, and more — everything you need to capture the night.
3. Champagne Bottle Balloons ($8.99)
This pack comes with one 40-inch champagne-bottle-shaped balloon and two 40-inch balloons in the shape of champagne glasses. And the best part is you can deflate and reuse them for any special occasion, not just NYE.
4. 50 Gold Solo Cups ($13.14)
Is it even a party without Solo cups? For $14, you get 50 shiny, gold, 16-oz plastic cups that are perfect for a NYE party.
5. Sequin Photo Backdrop ($16.69)
This is actually a tablecloth, but hear me out. A gold fringe curtain on Amazon costs $7.99, but honestly, I don’t think it looks very good. The fringe isn’t thick, so the wall behind you will show through. I mean, feel free to use the fringe curtain as a decoration, a backdrop to the food table, or a curtain for the doorway. But if you want to make a super great photo booth that won’t look cheap, use this sequin cloth. For $17, you get a nice 50-inch-by-80-inch tablecloth (that comes in a variety of colors) that you can reuse for years to come for every special occasion — even, gasp, as an actual tablecloth! We bought this last year when Shannon, our friend Jon, and I hosted our own NYE, and the photo booth turned out amazing! Plus, its shininess will attract your guests and make them want to strike poses all night.
Alright, let’s regroup. If you get everything on the Amazon list, it’ll cost a little more than $50. For an all-out party, I don’t think that’s too bad, and a few of these things are reusable. And if you split the price between a couple of friends, it’s actually really cheap. For the rest of your 2018 NYE party, I suggest doing the rest of your shopping at Dollar Tree or the 99 Cents Only store, depending on what’s around you. They actually have some super great stuff, and at $1, they're pretty hard to beat — even for Amazon. Here are my suggestions:
6. Black Balloons (12 in, pack of 15)
7. Silver Balloons (12 in, pack of 15)
8. White Balloons (12 in, pack of 15)
9. Gold Star Balloon (one 18-in star-shaped balloon)
10. Dark Gold Metallic Plates (7 in, pack of 24)
11. Plastic Utensils (pack of 48)
12. Gold Napkins (13 in, pack of 20)
13. Plastic Tablecloth (54" by 108")
These are the essentials, but I guarantee you’ll end up buying more things. Just think of the Dollar Store like Costco — you go in for two things and come out with 12. But if you can somehow contain yourself, that’s only $7.
Just one thing left: noisemakers! Check out these two options from Party City:
14. 24 Gold, Black, and Silver Party Horns ($6.99)
How amazing is this price? These are the typical shiny foil and cardstock noisemakers. Each is 9 inches and has eight horns in gold, silver, and black. Got to keep it classy!
15. 3-Pack Gold Confetti Party Poppers ($3.99)
These tubes are full of metallic gold-foil confetti that shoot up to nine feet. These are spring-loaded, so you can shoot them off without worrying about accidentally shooting someone's eye out.
* * *
If you purchase everything on this page, it’ll cost a little more than $70 for an amazing New Year’s Eve bash for about 15-25 people that will look classy and expensive without completely breaking the bank. Just make a trip to Costco for appetizers and drinks, and you’re all set!
If this still sounds a bit pricey, split the decorations between you and two other friends, and that’ll make it about $25 each — reasonable, right? To save even more, ask your guests to bring alcohol and/or a snack to share. Before you know it, you’ll have a great last-minute party that you’ll remember for years to come — and you’ll still be able to afford food the next day. :)
