Here we are again, Monday. A brand new week to not only get the work done we need to for our jobs, but also to enjoy ourselves, spend time with friends and family, work toward our goals, or make delicious cocktails. Whatever you have planned this week, we know that the biggest barrier to a great week is Monday. So, to hopefully make it suck just a little less, as you sip coffee through half-closed eyes, I created our second volume of Monday Mix (check out Volume 1) which highlights a few songs I’ve been loving lately as well as a curated Spotify album for you to listen to later.
“99 Red Balloons” by Oliver Nelson & Tobtok ft. River
This has been on repeat for me for the last couple of weeks. Surprisingly, I heard this song inside of an Abercrombie & Fitch, which I only walked into because I saw a Mickey Mouse shirt, and immediately asked Siri what song it was. It was love at first listen. A cool, fun, summery, modern version of 99 Red Balloons? Yes, please. Plus, I learned that it’s actually the 35th anniversary of Nena’s ‘80s hit “99 Luftballoons”!
“Strangers” by Sigrid
Sigrid is a Norwegian singer and songwriter with multiple chart-topping hits across the Atlantic. I stumbled upon her single “Strangers” while browsing playlists on Spotify, and it quickly jumped out at me. It’s another fun, danceable pop song which is great to crank up and sing along with while driving.
"Nevermind" by Dennis Loyd
We’re slowing it down a little bit with Dennis Loyd’s “Nevermind.” Loyd is an Israeli pop-electro musician who has created a haunting and tropical chill-pop dance track that provides both easy listening and something that just makes you want to bob your head. It sounds bizarre for a track to be able to provide all these elements, but if you listen to “Nevermind,” you’ll quickly hear that it's possible.
“Lonely Together” by Avicii (ft. Rita Ora)
As I’m sure you already know, Avicii passed away a couple of weeks ago, which is a huge loss for the music world. He was one of the first DJs to reach huge fame and success, bringing EDM to the forefront and making it mainstream. There have been so many times that I have found myself listening to a pre-made Spotify playlist when I hear a track I like and wonder who it is. When I check, it’s Avicii. Lately I have been really into his song “Lonely Together” featuring British singer Rita Ora on vocals. It’s an upbeat pop song that’s also balanced with a twinge of sadness, which makes you feel a bit introspective while listening to it. RIP, Avicii. You will be missed.
Along with these tracks, I created an album of 12 songs to help you get your day going or provide you with some afternoon motivation later today.
P.S. In case you missed it, check out Zach’s Avengers: Infinity War Review and plan to go watch Avengers this week — that should help you get through the day!
