Now that we’re halfway through the year, I thought it might be fun to go back and revisit some of Smoosh Life’s most successful Instagram posts. I always find it fascinating seeing what people like and don’t like (especially since my own favorites don’t always align with what’s popular). Basically, y’all like food. So without further ado, here are our top 10 Instagram posts of 2018 thus far.
If you didn’t know, National Martini Day is on June 19. A classic cocktail that started gaining acclaim in the 1920s, the martini represents sophistication, elegance, and savoir vivre. Although that may be true, I have yet to find more than two or three people who actually like a plain martini... Still, such a classic deserves recognition ─ and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with the iconic martini drinker himself: James Bond.
It’s difficult to construct a reason for why Solo: A Star Wars Story should even exist in the first place. Fleshing out the backstory of a character whose ambiguous existence is what made him popular from the start is a surefire recipe for disappointment…
Sometimes, you just have bad days. Maybe you dealt with a difficult client, spilled coffee on yourself, got yelled at for something that wasn’t your fault, had an extra-long day at work, got cut off by one too many cars … bad things are going to happen. For me personally, two things that will always, always cheer me up are comedies and a well-made cocktail. I love them on their own, but when you put them together?? I’ll be grinning from ear to ear and forget that my bad day ever happened.
I know not everyone likes to read. The act itself is slow and requires a lot of concentration 一 not to mention sitting still. There’s a reason why people immediately reach for their TV remote the second they get home (I definitely do). Unfortunately, not everyone has the sort of concentration to read long novels, even if they love the story itself. And if it’s Monday? Forget about it. So, rather than force my favorite lengthy literature on you, I want to present a few books that are short and easy to read without sacrificing a good story.
With superhero films becoming so popular in the last 10 years, more female heroes have been given a stage. I am particularly fond of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and have fallen in lady love with all the women heroes this universe has provided us within its 18 films. With Avengers: Infinity War premiering this week, I thought it would be only fitting to spend some time reflecting on some of the female heroes that have been key in so many of Marvel’s films. With male characters like Iron Man and Captain America often taking center stage in advertising and media, I hope this also provides you with a new perspective on some of the lady heroes in each of these movies.
Avengers: Infinity War premieres this Friday (or Thursday night for those attending premiere showings), and as a lover of the Marvel cinematic universe, I am very excited. But, we still have to get through one more week of work before we can settle in with our popcorn and soda, ready to cry our eyes out as we watch our favorite champions face unimaginable evils.
In order to help you get through this week and hopefully make your Monday a little better, I have created a Marvel Movie Marathon that gives you a different film to watch each night this week in preparation for the premiere….
Growing up is tough, but I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to take a break. After all, one of the perks of being an adult is getting to do whatever the heck we want. :) To help you out, I’ve made a YouTube playlist ─ a breakfast buffet, if you will ─ of some of my favorite cartoons growing up. And the best part? They’re free and accessible to everyone, even if you don’t have Netflix or Hulu. From Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, and Doug to Gargoyles, Recess, Rocket Power, and more, this video playlist will bring you back down memory lane.
Whether single or in a relationship, there’s nothing like a good romantic comedy that makes you feel all the feels without making you sick from the sickly sweet cheesiness of romance. Here at Smoosh, we put our heads together and compiled a list of all our favorite romantic comedies that are actually smartly written and not overly cheesy. We also consulted some of our guy friends, and guess what? Most of them are guy-approved! So if you want to have a romantic evening watching movies and cuddling up to your significant other without making the poor boy endure another episode of The Bachelor, consider adding these movies to your roster.
Let’s get this out of the way early: Thor: Ragnarok is good. It’s very, very good. It’s hilarious, heartwarming, well-paced, cool, and most of all, it’s just plain fun. Yes, it sags in the middle, has way too many characters and moving parts, and is about as weighty as cotton candy. All those would be a problem if this movie attempted to address any of it, but it doesn’t. The cast smiles and winks their way through all of it and does it so convincingly that most people won’t even notice those issues.
